Offered is a vintage Nambe #555a square plate, designed by Richard K. Thomas in 1956. The piece, recognized by the Museum of Modern Art in NY at the time, is an iconic mid-century design, and is a marvel of form meeting function. Made with Nambe’s signature aluminum alloy, it can withstand severe heat and retain it too, making it useful for serving entrees and finger foods. The alloy stays chilled as well after being in the freezer or fridge - making in an ideal tray for serving fruit and cheese as well.
This particular vintage tray I believe dates to the 1960s or possibly even the 1950s, and is just 8" square, smaller than the current 555a tray being made in a 9" size. It is stamped on the base, “By Nambe 555A”, as shown.
Condition: Excellent used condition. There are some light surface scratches on the top, and evidence of normal wear on the base.
