This is a wonderful retro covered casserole from Poole Pottery Ltd. of England in their modernist Lucullus line. Lucullus was designed in 1962 by Robert Jefferson (ref: Design Council Slide Collection of Manchester Metropolitan University). This hexagon shaped oven to table baking dish was part of an eleven piece series, of which there were three lidded baking dishes in various sizes.
The design, of gourds or squash on a vine, is executed in lime green and black on a white ground. The interior of the dish is white; the exterior is a teal blue. The dish is stamped on the base as shown: “Poole England Est. 1873.” This is a fantastic mid-century graphic design decorating the highest quality British earthenware.
SIZE: 10" long by 9-3/8" wide by 4-1/2" high to top of knob.
CONDITION: Like new. No chips, cracks, crazing or scratches inside or out.
