This cylinder vase is finely worked with rhythmic sgraffito designs encircling the body, glazed in chartreuese green and aqua blue. I believe it is from Scandinavia, problably either Sweden or Denmark, dating back to the 1960s or perhaps 1970s, although it may also be Italian from the Bitossi /Fantoni era. The incised, nearly geometric designs and the glaze colors are very similar to Aldo Londi's Rimini Blue pieces for Bitossi. The vessel is unmarked, however. The perfectly round base ring is what makes me think it is probably from Scandinavia rather than from Italy. If anyone has more information about this vase, I would truly appreciate your contacting me with it.
The vase (or bowl) stands 4" tall and 4-1/4" in diameter. Other uses for it might be as a wine coaster, or even a small jardiniere or cache-pot. The piece is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. There are a few fine white lines on the bottom of the inside, which may be water deposits. I have not tried to remove them, as I do not feel that they detract at all from this great, retro vase.
